The Lakeside Manors

The whole tour is an about 70km fantastic experience of beautiful nature and the historic manors featured in author Birgit Th Sparres series of novels entitled “Gårdarna runt sjön” (“The Lakeside Manors”). Sparre lived at Åsundsholm Manor where she had her writing studio in the attic.

Hofsnäs Manor one of the stately homes and the legendary Torpa Stenhus are  two other places on this tour well worth visiting. Torpa Stenhus is one of the best-preserved manor houser from the Renessance period in Sweden. Part of it dates back to Medieval times. During summer thee are tours of the building along with a theatrical production of historical events, Torpaspelen.

The Västergötland Ecomuseum heritage trail

This is an area with over 80 different attractions in the area from Ulricehamn to Falköping. This beautiful farming area features everything from nature reserves, historic settings to farm shops, inns and mill cafés. A brochure with a map and presentation of the sights can be obtaind from our reception or the Touris Office.

Ekhagens Prehistoric Village

lies nearby the Ätran river in beautiful surroundings apx 30 km north of Ulricehamn towards Falköping. Through reconstruction of prehistoric settlements, you are able to see how people lived a thousand years ago. During summer there are many activities and various prehistoric techniques are demonstrated.

Animals of old native breed wander freely in the village whereas wild boars are kept fenced in.

This excursion is very popular among children so don't miss it!

The Art- and East Asian Museum

It is housed in the old railway station and features a collection of Chinese porcelain spanning 4000 years that is unique in the world.

The Komosse nature reserve

The nature reserve is one of the largest continuous wetland areas in Sweden. Its unexploited and diverse character has ensured it a leading place among Europe’s remaining wetland areas.

The Björnöleden trail, a 5km footbridge path, takes visitors to the most exciting part of the area.

Mills

There are several old mills with cafés, musical entertainment, flour milling and sales, for example Kvarntorps Mill dating back to the 17th century. They are open throughout the summer with walking and cykling trails passing nearby.

Other places to visit

Liseberg is the largest amusement park in Scandinavia and is located in Gothenburg. Liseberg has something for everyone. Little ones will enjoy attractions like Kiddie bumpers and the Fairy Tale Castle and the older ones will find their favourites among Lisebergsbanan, the Flumeride and, if they dare, Balder and Kanonen.
